Media Information and Networking Session: oneGov 2.0 and Tradian Phase I Go Live

Media Information and Networking Session: oneGov 2.0 and Tradian Phase I Go Live

To mark the operationalisation of Tradian Phase I and the release of oneGov 2.0, Tradenet Maldives hosted a media information and networking session on Sunday, 20 April at its head office in Malé.

The session offered members of the media an opportunity to explore both platforms, engage directly with Tradenet’s leadership, and celebrate the progress made in advancing the Maldives’ digital transformation agenda.

Opening Remarks: Celebrating Progress

The session began with opening remarks from Ms. Saeeda Umar, Managing Director of Tradenet Maldives Corporation Limited.

She reflected on the evolution of oneGov, which began in July 2023 with just five agencies. In under a year, the platform now delivers more than 350 services—both core and supplementary—through a unified digital interface, supporting around 15 agencies.

Ms. Umar also highlighted Tradian, launched in September 2024, as the Maldives’ first digital platform for streamlining international trade. She noted the complex legal and procedural work behind the scenes, including extensive inter-agency coordination, which contributed to the platform's successful operationalisation.

"With Phase I now live," she confirmed, "Traders can begin using Tradian from today, with key services already available on the platform."

Advancing oneGov 2.0

Ahmed Samoon, Head of ICT at Tradenet, presented the evolution of oneGov 2.0, outlining how the platform has grown into the national hub for digital government services.

He emphasised Tradenet’s role in supporting agencies, ensuring the system evolves through user feedback and platform analytics.

Unlike traditional systems that rely on PDF uploads, oneGov uses smart web forms, improving submission quality and making services easier to access.

Benefits for Users and Service Providers

  • Users can track progress, receive real-time updates, and respond to queries within the platform.

  • Agencies gain tools to monitor applications, assign responsible officers, and communicate directly with applicants.

Mr. Samoon also shared measurable impact:

  • 35% increase in efficiency

  • 57% reduction in processing time

  • 8/10 average satisfaction rating from agencies

He concluded by referencing a recent policy decision: In February, the Cabinet approved a target to bring all government services online through oneGov by 2027.

Closing Remarks

In her closing remarks, Ms. Saeeda Umar reaffirmed Tradenet’s mission to deliver citizen-focused, secure digital services for the Maldives.

She underscored the role of the media in supporting this transformation—both in raising awareness and in bringing the public voice into ongoing improvements.

Tradenet committed to more regular updates moving forward and announced the distribution of informational booklets on both oneGov 2.0 and Tradian.

Ms. Umar closed by expressing gratitude to the dedicated teams and partner agencies behind both platforms and reaffirmed Tradenet’s commitment to shaping a digital future for all Maldivians.
